Dubai hotels: compare prices before you book

Short answer: search the same dates on two comparison engines, then open the hotel's own website. In Dubai the gap between the cheapest and the most expensive seller of the same room is often the price of a night.

Why prices differ for the same room

• Different sellers, different margins. Online agencies, wholesalers and the hotel itself price the same inventory independently.
• Board and rate conditions. Room-only versus breakfast, refundable versus non-refundable, pay-now versus pay-at-hotel.
• Taxes and fees shown late. Dubai adds municipality fee, service charge, VAT and a per-night tourism dirham fee. Some sites show them only at checkout.
• Currency. A price in AED can beat the same price converted to USD or EUR once the card's conversion fee is added.

How to compare in five minutes

1. Fix the dates, the number of guests and the room type.
2. Run the search on two engines below and sort by total price, not per night.
3. Open the two cheapest sellers and read the cancellation deadline and what the price includes.
4. Open the hotel's own site for the same room; hotels sometimes add breakfast or late check-out for direct bookings.
5. Book the one with the lowest total for the conditions you actually need.

When to pay more

• You may change dates: a refundable rate a few percent higher is cheaper than a lost non-refundable night.
• You arrive late or early: a seller that confirms late check-in or early check-out saves a fee at the desk.

Red flags

• A seller far below everyone else with no reviews or with payment outside the site.
• "Only 1 room left" on every hotel of a list.
• A confirmation that the hotel cannot find under your name the day before.
